Tips for slowing and looping songsWant to learn something off an MP3 or practice along with the band but can't quite get it at speed? Below are two plugins for WinAmp that I've found to be essential:
PaceMaker - Allows you to slow down an MP3 without changing its pitch. Works effectively to about 25% of the original speed until digital distortion starts to really make it hard to hear. Also allows for the changing of pitch independently of speed for tracks recorded with wonky tuning (I'm looking at you Flatt & Scruggs) or to bring that Doyle Lawson song down into your range. Claims to work with removing vocals as well, but I can't really see how that would happen.
Loop Master - Allows you to set start and end points to loop a section of a song. Used with PaceMaker, you can slow a section down and loop it while you play along or try to figure it out.
Keep in mind that these only work from within WinAmp so if you manage your music in another program as I do, look for a "View file location" or "Show in Windows Explorer" (iTunes) option. In fact, you can drag and drop right from iTunes into WinAmp. As far as I know, the above only work on the PC but drop me an email with your tips for Mac and I'll post them here. |
